Geographic Radio Signal Coverage Survey

During 2006-2007, Equal Access Nepal conducted a national survey of +50 FM transmitters to determine the geographic coverage of these radio stations which was plotted as a scientific coverage map of the radio signals transmitted by that radio station. For general broadcasters, knowing the geographic reach of their station allowed them to know with accuracy where their programs can be heard on terrestrial radio and identify these areas for the better use of information dissemination.

Most of the maps provided in this site are in low resolution format and can be made available on written request to Equal Access Nepal.

Broadcast Audience Survey (BAS) Reports

Audience Survey was another major component of the Broadcast Audience Survey conducted by Equal Access Nepal in two phases (Jun-Jul 2006 & Feb-Mar 2007).

The other components will provide a detailed picture of the geographic reach and general population and demographic information for people able to listen to the radio. But other details will still be unknown - how many are actually listening? Which stations and programs are they listening to? What are their listening preferences in terms of time and program type?, and so on.

The audience penetration survey attempts to address these issues. Using a survey sample of 4,000+ respondents across 55+ districts, a detailed data about listening behaviors and radio penetration amongst those surveyed has been established.

Detailed report, charts and information on audience survey is available here.

Other Media Reports

There has been a number of radio surveys carried out in Nepal, the first one being the
nationwide study of radio listener ship conducted by New Era, a consultancy firm, in 1974. Since then, there has been few such surveys focused on broadcasting sector of Nepal. Regular surveys are also conducted by various research firms such as Nielsen which concentrates on urban areas and determines the monthly pattern of various media in Nepal.

Most of the reports of these surveys are available as downloadable files from their respective sites, the links of which are provided here.
